3 Christmas holidays craft ideas for long days at home

Finally Christmas holiday, right? It’s of course nice to have some time with the family, get off work and eat lots of delicious Christmas food. But that tiny little thing about getting some time off and how that effekts our daily routines, well, that’s not my strongest point. Entertaining a soon-to-be 3-year-old and a soon-to-be 7-year-old has its challenges. But we work together and try to make the best out of the situation.

My family likes to be creative and create all sorts of things, at least me and the kids. My husband likes other (boring) things, even though he works as a handy carpender on a daily basis. It’s probably one of my favorite parts about myself tho, my creative side. Which is unfortunately directly linked to my poor impulse control when it comes to buying new craft items… So in my house there are A LOT of crafts supplies to create with for anyone who wants to. And we want to, thank goodness!

I thought I’d take the opportunity to recommend 3 crafts that we’ve done here at home recently, and that might be suitable for your Christmas holiday, or any other day.

  • First up, the classic gingerbread bake. I bought these cute little mini gingerbread cookie cutters 5 years ago and they are a big favorite in our house ever since. A marble rolling pin also makes it easier when baking with children because it does most of the work itself due to its weight. I use the wooden one and the kids uses the marble one! We fill up a big glas jar with these mini hearts every year. They also makes a great home made chistmas present!

The christmas cookie cutters we use are linked here.

The wooden rolling pin linked here. They are also available in kids size, too cute!

The marble rolling pin linked here. Do not drop it, it will break your toes!

Some other cookie cutters i like linked here. You can’t have to many, right?

  • The second tip I have is plaster figures. I like to cast mine myself but you can of course just as well buy ready-made ones! The silicone molds are way better than the plastic ones for sure! We have both 2D and 3D molds, very fun activity! My three year old usually gets to use watercolours when she paints as it makes so much less of a mess (yes plz) than the acrylic paints that my seven year old prefers to use. But it’s such a lovely thing to do together, it suits everyone and we have so much fun together!

A plaster painting kit liked here and some silicone molds if you want to diy it linked here. You can use any silicone mold, small or big, i have tried plenty and haven’t been disappointed yet!

For the watercolour we use the big cake ones that can be refilled, liked here and here. We also like the smaller version av the watercolour set, great for traveling, liked here. And my 7 year old likes the akrylic pain better for the plaster figures, linked here. I buy everything in big pack. Better for the wallet, environment and i don’t have to remember to buy new supplies ALL THE TIME! But nothing is a better buy than a cheap, big pack of new paint brushes like these! Don’t forget to wash them (like i do)

  • My third and last tip for today is the absolute simplest, and most importantly, the least messy tip. Make your own bookmarks to give as Christmas gifts to the family. My 7-year-old has made these lovely bokmarks all by himself. He wanted everyone in the family to get one, so he got to work. Drawing, writing names, laminating and cutting all of them! Hyperfocus at it’s very best! Can’t wait to get mine!

We use our laminator for all sorts of things, have you tried laminating things from the nature like leafs, thats fun! Link to laminator here and of course some refill sheets here!

Hope you liked my christmas craft tips, let me know if you tried any of them or if you have a tip i could try!
