Small Steps Still Count
Some days, getting out of bed feels like climbing a mountain in flip-flops.
We live in a world that celebrates big wins, fast results, and shiny “before & after” moments. Finish the project. Clean the house. Change your life by Monday. And if you don’t? Well… try harder.
But here’s your daily hug reminder: small steps still count.
With ADHD, progress often looks invisible from the outside. You answered one email but stared at it for 20 minutes first. You started the laundry but forgot it in the machine (again). You planned to do five things and managed one. That one thing matters. Really. Small steps are not a failure version of big steps. They are often the only way forward when your brain is tired, overwhelmed, or simply doing its own thing. Showing up for five minutes is still showing up. Resting instead of pushing through is still a choice that supports you. Starting messy is still starting.
And no, you don’t need to “catch up.” You’re not behind. You’re moving at a pace that takes your nervous system, your energy, and your real life into account. That’s not laziness. That’s self-respect.
Some days, a small step is drinking water. Some days, it’s saying no. Some days, it’s doing the thing badly instead of not at all. Those days count too.
Progress with ADHD isn’t linear. It’s more like a doodle. A scribble. A few steps forward, one sideways, one snack break, and then… oh look, something shiny. Still counts.
So if today feels quiet, slow, or underwhelming — let it. You don’t need a breakthrough to be worthy of rest or kindness. You don’t need a perfect system to deserve encouragement.
You are allowed to move gently. You are allowed to go slow. You are allowed to count the small things. Because small steps? Still count.
Even the one where you read this instead of doing the thing you were “supposed” to do.
Just a small hug from me to you
